Outside the "Christian Bubble."

Sunday kicked off our first installment of what promises to be a very interesting summer of Sunday School. The first lesson in Dan Kimball's "They Like Jesus But Not the Church," I believe, has sparked the enthusiam and curiosity of the congregation.
I firmly believe that they will catch where we're trying to go with this. I'm so excited about where this new study is taking me, both personally and as a pastor. I've been trying to be balanced in my approach to this "Emergent Church" philosophy, knowing that there are many critics of this way of thinking.
But, in typical postmodern style, I'm going to boil the good things out of it and use this for God's glory. If we are to be effective at telling people around us about the hope that we have in Christ, we have to speak it in a language they can understand. They don't necessarily need concrete truth right off the bat; they need to trust the person who wants to share the truth with them first.
My prayer through all of this is that God will give me a person who I can build a relationship with. I feel like, as a pastor, I'm so caught up in the Christian bubble that I don't have any contact with the outside world. I'm ready to "pop the bubble" and step out into the outside for a breath of fresh air, in hopes that those around me will be able to get a little glimpse of this person, Jesus, who can radically change their lives for the good.
